This is a book for the professional investor and has little relevance to the majority of retail investors. The author describes retail investors as "short on sophistication as well as alternatives and not always known to act rationally'" (page 329).
The book is aimed at the institutional investor and the creators of retail investor's products.
The purpose of the book is to assist the institutional investor into incorporating contemporary derivative solutions into every day transactional problems. The members of the Investors Association would find this a challenging book to incorporate in their libraries. The book is for the technically minded.
The author is undoubtedly a respected contributor to modern derivative developments. The text is easy to read and well balanced with examples to assist the average managed fund executive.
Finance practitioners would enjoy this book before they picked up the more technical books on pricing and hedging. The author hopes these professionals would utilise this book as part of their toolbox when they enter into the multiple issues associated with institutional investing.
