When I first opened this book I thought it might be quite a technical book and a hard read. To the contrary I found it to be an informative and interesting read.
In the introduction the author introduces the reader to five developments in the Internet world and how those changes underscore both risks and opportunities facing investors and managers.
Net Profit thoroughly explains different segments of Internet business. As well the author explains and simplifies technology jargon.
The Net Profit Retriever, framework for assessing Internet businesses, is the tool used to expand and investigate a specific Internet business segment. This tool is not only useful to analyse whether or not to invest in a specific Internet business but I believe could be applied to many other businesses.
The author explains and discusses in depth different Internet business segments; Network Infrastructure, Internet Venture Capital, Internet Security, Web Portals, Electric Commerce, Web Content, Web Consulting, Internet Service Providers, Web Commerce Tools. This detailed analysis gives the reader a complete overview of what is involved in Internet business and what Investors and/or Business owners should be aware of.
There are case studies included for different companies in each segment and how the framework assessment (Net Profit Retriever) is applied to them. As discussed above, there are many jewels of information contained in this book that need not only be applied to Internet business.
The author sums up by summarizing what has been learned. Myths and truths are discussed for both the investor and business owner. A step by step method and invaluable case studies are provided for business owners/managers thinking of implementing Web applications to their business.
Finally rules are provided for the investor of Internet businesses and any investor who has, holds or is about to invest in the Technology Sector should definitely read this book.
