Banks are stronger than they have been in a generation, reveals PwC Australia’s Major Banks Analysis Half Year 2021.

In early July, APRA confirmed that the four major banks will be required to increase their total capital ratios by 3 percentage points (down from the initial recommended 4 - 5 percentage points) by 1 January 2024.

The March quarter consumer price index confirmed annual headline inflation at 1.3 per cent, while the underlying inflation measure saw inflation running at an equal record low of just 1.4 per cent.

While a recession in Australia is still unlikely, very unlikely in fact, there is a growing risk the unfolding mix of events will hit the economy hard.
