Privacy Policy

The Australian Investors Association (AIA) is a non-profit organisation which is not required to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and the National Privacy Principles contained therein.  However the AIA's Council has decided to advise its members of the information it collects and how it uses that information.

Information Collection

The AIA does not collect any information from members without their consent.  Information is mainly collected when the individual joins the AIA, applies to attend a conference or workshop or attends a discussion group meeting.
The type of information collected includes name contact details, age group and retirement/work status.  Additional information may be obtained from time to time by requesting that the member voluntarily complete surveys or questionnaires.  This additional information is generally not retained on a permanent basis except to update existing details.

Information Storage

Information is stored on a database and access is limited to those authorized by the AIA Council.

Reason for Information Collection

Information collection is limited to that required to contact members eg name and contact details and to assist Council in the provision of adequate services to members eg age group and retirement/work status.
Information collected by survey or questionnaire is aggregated for use by Council or local discussion groups.

Release of Information to Third Parties

The AIA will not release any personal information to third parties unless this relates to a special offer being made available to members and the member wishes to take up that offer.

Website Monitoring

The AIA does not monitor its website other than to collect non-specific information on the number of times the website is visited.  Information collected through contact with the webmaster via the website will be treated as correspondence with the Secretariat and may be retained for record purposes.

Email

The AIA will only record an email address if the member provides the details to us.    This information will only be used by the AIA to communicate with the member and will not be provided to third parties unless it is part of a special offer made available to members from time-to-time.

Cookies

This site sends out only one cookie which identifies you as an AIA member and is used by our site server to keep track of your session.  This cookie is not saved by your browser, it is discarded at the end of your current www session.
We also make use of an analytical program owned and operated by Google.  This analysis enables us to find out what are our most popular pages which assists in maintaining the site.  This program sets three cookies which are discarded at the end of your browsing session.

Statistics

Our Internet Service Provider makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes - your server's address, your server's top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, etc), the date and time of your visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used.  No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the Internet Service Provider's logs.
